Abstract:

This study was conducted to examine the mediating role of motivation in the relationship between digital leadership and innovative work behavior. In the study, the effects of the orientation sub-dimension of digital leadership, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation on the innovative work behaviors of academicians were investigated. Within the scope of the research, data were collected from 195 academic staff working in engineering faculties of universities (state and foundation) in Turkey via survey method. As a result of the analyses, it was determined that the orientation sub-dimension of digital leadership significantly and positively affected the innovative work behaviors of academicians. At the same time, the partial mediating role of extrinsic motivation was determined in the relationship between digital leadership and innovative work behavior, while the mediating role of intrinsic motivation could not be reached. These results reveal that digital leaders can encourage and motivate their employees' innovative work behaviors. Examining the impact of digital leadership on employee behavior in different sectors and samples is recommended as an important research area for future studies. In addition, in line with the findings obtained, it is recommended that digital leadership be strengthened in universities and that extrinsic motivation elements be used strategically.
