Özet

Neuroimaging has been one of the fundamental tools which are used to determine the underlying biological mechanisms of the psychopathology. Researchers aim to explore effects of psychiatric disorders (PDs) on neuronal connections, risky situations and treatment modalities using neuroimaging techniques. Rationale for this is the hypothesis that, PDs have a series of symptoms which reflect dysfunction of neuronal network. Recent studies show that PDs are related to critical structural and functional changes of brain. Wide range of research modalities including structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography/single photon emission computerized tomography and optic imaging have demonstrated regional and disorder-specific changes of brain tissue in the prodromal phase of and high-risk individuals for certain PDs. Clinical application of neuroimaging shows potential assistance in diagnosis, treatment planning or monitorization of patients with major PDs. In conclusion, neuroimaging is a tool which may be helpful in decisions of diagnosis and treatment of PDs. In our presentation; while taking the active efforts in the usage of neurobiological parameters for the diagnosis and personalization of the treatment of PDs into consideration, we aimed to explore the pioneering neuroimaging-based approaches, current trends and promising future points of view in psychiatry field.
