Özet

Institutions of higher education in the United States employ an increasing number of international graduate students to teach undergraduate courses and laboratories in science fields. This increase of international teaching assistants (ITAs) contributes to globalization in US higher education and supports the internationalization of classrooms. However, as they transition to teaching in the United States, both ITAs and their students encounter various linguistic, social, cultural, and academic challenges. This chapter discusses these issues and offers suggestions to ITAs, students, and institutions of higher education in the United States that can improve communication between ITAs and their students, support the effectiveness of teaching science, and improve student learning in science.
