Social Sciences Interdisciplinary

The Georgian Studies Research Group is an interdisciplinary research platform that brings together various disciplines within the social sciences to examine Georgia’s political, social, economic, and cultural transformation from a holistic perspective. Drawing on fields such as political science, international relations, public administration, sociology, history, economics, and cultural studies, the Group addresses Georgia’s processes of modernization, state-building, democratization, identity formation, governance, and development in a multidimensional manner.

Within this framework, Georgia’s historical legacy, social structure, economic transformation, and regional position are analyzed comparatively at local, national, and international levels. By integrating field research with qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as cultural political economy and governance-oriented approaches, the Group promotes the production of critical, innovative, and holistic knowledge on the Black Sea and South Caucasus region.

In this respect, the Georgian Studies Research Group goes beyond being an initiative focused solely on a single country and offers a broad academic space for understanding regional interactions, historical continuities, and contemporary transformations.
