Özet

Floriculture is a key industry focused on the production and sale of ornamental flowers, with growing commercial demand driving the need for improved floral attributes such as color, morphology, and longevity. Conventional breeding faces limitations like a lack of genetic variation and long timelines. Genome editing, particularly through CRISPR, offers a solution by enhancing precision and efficiency in breeding cycles. This chapter explores CRISPR/Cas9 applications in floriculture, including the enhancement of floral attributes, disease resistance, and postharvest longevity. It also discusses strategies to improve CRISPR efficiency and addresses challenges like species specificity and regulatory hurdles. Integrating omics techniques with CRISPR has the potential to transform the floriculture industry.
