Marker-Assisted Breeding in Legumes for Drought Tolerance, Springer International Publishing Ag, ss.399-431, 2025
This chapter investigates the multifaceted challenges and opportunities in legume breeding under sustainable agriculture. It explores the impacts of elevated CO[[inf]]2[[/inf]] levels and temperature on legume production and nodulation, emphasizing the necessity for enhanced stress tolerance. A comprehensive review of traditional breeding methods, alongside recent advancements and OMICS approaches, is presented. This chapter highlights successful cultivar development using both conventional and modern techniques and identifies critical adaptive traits essential for resilient pulse crop production. Addressing genetic limitations of pulses, it discusses emerging technologies and tools, such as high-throughput phenotyping and genome editing, which are pivotal for overcoming these challenges. This synthesis aims to provide a forward-looking perspective on leveraging innovative breeding strategies to ensure the sustainability and productivity of legume crops in the face of global climate challenges.
