Özet

Birdwatching is a type of tourism that involves observing birds in their natural habitats or along migration routes and has positive effects on physical and mental health. It contributes to environmental conservation as well as economic growth. When factors such as employment, education, health, economy, and living standards are considered, the province of Artvin ranks 49th among provinces in Türkiye in terms of development. For this reason, increasing the development of Artvin is a priority. Based on this, the present research aims to answer the following question: "Is Artvin a potential destination for birdwatching?" A qualitative research approach and purposeful sampling method were used and the data were analyzed through interpretative phenomenological analysis. The findings showed that Artvin, particularly the Macahel region and the Çoruh Valley, is highly suitable for observing migratory birds. Facilities that could be established in these areas hold great potential for scientific research and birdwatching tourism. The research emphasizes that Türkiye's geographical position on bird migration routes and its rich ecosystem make the country an ideal destination for birdwatching tourism. It is recommended that significant regions such as Artvin be integrated into global birdwatching routes through promotional and observational efforts and this will strengthen Artvin's role in international birdwatching tourism and contribute to its sustainable development.
