Özet

This study examines the important role of activist social work in encouraging social workers to participate meaningfully in policy-/decision-making processes within Turkey's political context. It investigates how social workers use their knowledge and values to promote social justice and human rights in political settings. A qualitative case study methodology was adopted for this research. During the data collection process, in-depth interviews were conducted with 14 social workers with at least five years of experience. The research aims to highlight the specific challenges faced by social workers in Turkey's complex political context. These challenges include limitations on freedom of expression, restrictions on civil society activities, and professional risks associated with political activism. The research examines how social workers respond to these dilemmas, using creative strategies to amplify the voices of marginalised communities, promote critical awareness, and support social change within the existing conditions. The research findings expand our understanding of how activist social work empowers social workers to advance social justice in Turkey by examining how they engage in various political activities.
