Özet

In this study, impregnation properties of barite in wood was investigated for the first time; being harmless to environmental-human health, this natural material was aimed to be used in various fields (industries such as furniture, construction, etc.). Barite (BaSO4) was prepared at different concentrations (1%, 3%, 5%, 50%), and impregnation was done as per ASTM-D 1413-76 principles. Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) was used as a wood type. According to experimental results, total retention (kg/m(3)), retention %, compression strengthes in both species of wood with increasing solution concentration increased. The highest value of total retention beech wood at 50 % solution (2030 kg/m(3)); the highest value of retention % beech wood at 50 % solution (1.80 %) ; highest value of compression strengthes beech wood at 50 % solution (71.86 N/mm(2)); least value of compression strengthes pine wood at % 5 solution (59.91 N/mm(2)) is obtained.
