Arapçada yalnızca i’râb alan ismin sonuna gelen tenvin, türüne ve dâhil olduğu yere göre isme yeni anlamlar kazandıran bir harftir.
Tenvin bazen bir harfin, bir kelimenin hatta bir cümlenin anlamını karşılar, ismin cümledeki yeri ve yapısına göre kimi zaman dâhil olduğu ismin anlamını genelleştirir, bazen de tenvin alması gereken bir isimde tenvin bulunmaması kelimenin anlamını kısıtlar.
Arapçada bazı isimler hiçbir şekilde tenvin almaz, tenvin alması gereken bazı kelimeler ise tenvin alması gerekirken özel sebeplerden dolayı tenvinsiz kullanılır.
Tanwin coming at the end of nouns which only take i’râb in Arabic is a letter causing them to gain new meaning according to its type and where it belongs to.
Tanwin sometimes meets the meaning a letter, or a word, or even a clause; it sometimes generalize the meaning of the noun which it is involved in according to the position of the noun in sentence and its structure; and sometimes the lack of tanwin in a noun having to the tanwin restrict the meaning of that word.
Some nouns never takes tanwin in any way and some words having to take tanwin does’nt take tanwin because of specific reasons although they have to.
