Özet

Loropetalum chinense taxon has a great commercial value worldwide. It also stands out with its aesthetic value, flowering characteristics and use in landscape applications. The natural distribution of these types of plants, which have important landscape values, is endangered by factors such as habitat loss, climate change and isolation of populations. In this context, the study of seed dormancy, cold stratification and germination processes is of great importance for the reproduction of the plant and the preservation of its genetic diversity. In this study, the effects of cold stratification at different times on breaking seed dormancy and germination percentages were investigated. This research showed that the seeds had the highest germination rate of 86.67% following 110 days of stratification. An analysis of the relationship between seed weight and germination success revealed a favorable correlation. This relationship is crucial in establishing the significance and the optimum values of both seed sowing weight and cold stratification period for enhancing germination performance. In addition, the obtained data provide important information for commercial ornamental plant production, while also allowing the development of strategies for the sustainable protection of the natural distribution areas of Loropetalum chinense.
