Özet

Nowadays natural pozzolans are widely used as supplementary materials in order to reduce the environmental impacts arising from cement production. However, the use of natural pozzolans at high replacement ratios may lead to certain disadvantages such as increased water demand and reduced early-age strength. In this study, a thermal activation method was applied to the raw material in order to eliminate these disadvantages and enhance the pozzolanic reactivity of the material. The natural pozzolan material was calcined at temperatures of 500 °C, 700 °C, and 900 °C using both rapid calcination and slow calcination methods. The mineralogical structure and pozzolanic reactivity of the obtained samples were investigated. In addition, the effects of different chemical admixtures on water demand and compressive strength in cement-based systems were evaluated. Furthermore, the effects of calcination methods and the use of different chemical admixtures on the microstructure and mechanical performance of cement mortars were also examined.
