<p>Purpose: This study examined the relationship between nurses’ spiritual care competencies and the frequency of their spiritual care practices, as well as factors associated with this relationship.<br />Material and methods: This cross-sectional study included 112 nurses working in Türkiye between September 2023 and May 2024. Data were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Form, Spiritual Care Competency Scale, Nurses’ Spiritual Care Therapeutics Scale, and Brief Symptom Inventory. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, t-tests, ANOVA, and simple linear regression were used for data analysis.<br />Results: Nurses’ spiritual care competency and spiritual care frequency scores showed a low positive correlation (r=.228, p<0.05). Nurses who had received spirituality-related training reported significantly higher spiritual care frequency scores than those without such training.<br />Single nurses had higher spiritual care competency scores than married nurses, and nurses with 1–4 years of professional experience scored higher than those with 10 or more years of experience (p<0.05). Regression analysis indicated that spiritual care frequency positively predicted spiritual care competency.<br />Conclusions: Nurses demonstrated moderate spiritual care competencies but reported a low frequency of spiritual care practices. Expanding spirituality-related education and supporting spiritual care in clinical settings may strengthen nurses’ competencies and promote holistic care.</p>
