This paper analyzes the foreign policies pursued by US governments towards Africa in the scope of grand strategies during the terms of Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joseph Biden. It attempts to present what types of grand strategies the Obama, Trump and Biden administrations advocated and how those grand strategies affected foreign policies of those administrations towards the continental Africa. To identify the grand strategies of those presidents, and their implementations in the continental Africa, data was collected from two types of documents. The first types of documents were published during the election campaigns of those presidents. They are, the article of Barack Obama, Renewing American Leadership, the book of Donald Trump, Making America Great Again: Restoring a Fading America, the press release of Joseph Biden, the Biden Plan to Lead the Democratic World to Meet the Challenges of the 21st Century. The second types of documents were the National Security Strategy documents released by those governments in 2010, 2015, 2017 and 2022 respectively. The paper argues that all those presidents pursued foreign policies in relation to their grand strategies and that they perceived the continent as a place for new opportunities such as development, investment and economic growth. Findings also demonstrate that despite having different foreign policy implementations towards the continental Africa because of divergent grand strategies, the Obama, Trump and Biden administrations perceived the continent as a place for trade and investments for economic gains.
