The “Internet of things” (IoT) is becoming
an increasingly growing topic that has high potential impacts on how people
live in near future. Since internet is become more widely available and cost
effective, more devices are being created with Wi-Fi capabilities and sensors
built into them. These devices could be part of a network of connected things
which IoT terms comes from. Many opportunities and challenges are going to be
available with IoT. IoT has great potential numerous application areas from
home to city technologies or education to health technologies. Many startup
companies specializing on IoT has been opening up all over the world. This work
provides a comprehensive survey of the IoT startup companies and their
specialization. Angel.co is a website that enables incorporation startups and
investors. A startup can announce about their business for investors’ view and
investors could support startups. We used the website api to gather data about
startups related with IoT. 2176 startup companies were analyzed considering
their market focus and location. The aim of this work is to envision the IoT
effect on future life and businesses.
