Post-disaster sheltering is crucial in disaster management. Türkiye’s location on earthquake-prone geography makes research on temporary shelter design vital. The 6 February 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes highlighted the need to improve container living. This study identifies design flaws and utilisation issues in container shelters based on real-life observations. In this qualitative research, field studies, direct observation, document reviews, and semi-structured questionnaires were used. Data were analysed using NVivo software to explore challenges. Findings reveal issues such as insufficient space, poor infrastructure, and hygiene problems. The study emphasizes a holistic approach to container design to enhance temporary shelters and disaster victims’ quality of life. Through interviews and analysis, the research suggests short, medium, and long-term user-focused improvements for sustainable solutions.
