International student mobility has become a pivotal aspect of higher education and personal growth in an increasingly globalized world. The movement of students across global borders to pursue their academic aspirations has transcended mere academic pursuit to become a transformative experience that touches upon cultural adaptation, multicultural competence, and career development. Multicultural competence is essential for the association between international student mobility and career development. It refers to an individual's ability to interact and adapt within a multicultural environment effectively, which holds significant implications for personal and professional growth. This study investigates the mechanism through which international student mobility impacts career development. At the same time, cultural adaptation stands as the moderator of the relationship between multicultural competence and career development. Concerning the level of cultural adaptation, individuals experience different effects of multicultural competence on their career development. This moderating variable allows us to delve into the nuanced aspects of international student mobility and its implications for career development.
In light of the mediation and moderation dynamics, this research explores the relationship between international student mobility and career development. By employing a structured research model, we seek to unravel the intricacies of these connections, offering a profound understanding of the transformative potential that international student mobility holds for personal and professional development. Our findings are poised to inform educational institutions, policymakers, and international students, offering valuable guidance on maximizing the benefits of international education experiences. In doing so, this research contributes to a broader conversation about the role of global student mobility in shaping the careers of a globally mobile generation.
