Özet
Conventional cutting fluids with flood cooling are used to reduce the
heat generation during machining but at the cost of environmental
degradation. The hydrocarbon-based conventional cutting fluids are
harmful to the operator’s health, environmentally unfriendly, and
problematic to disposal and recycling. The possible solution being
explored is machining without cutting fluid or lubricant. Dry cutting
has been investigated for many years to overcome the machining
challenges. However, tool wear still remains a problem in dry cutting.
Dry cutting at optimum parameters and using coated and treated tools can
be the possible solutions. This chapter sheds light on dry cutting of
various engineering materials via some case studies. The chapter aims to
facilitate researchers working on green or sustainable machining and to
encourage them to establish the field further.
