Özet

Rize, which stands out with its nature and greenery, is among the rapidly urbanizing cities. Due to the rapid urbanization in recent years, central construction has spread along the coast and expanded towards the hilly areas in the south (Polat and Sunkar, 2017). With increasing construction, the natural and green texture is decreasing day by day. This situation brings along ecological problems and psychological problems on individuals. Individuals do not feel good in the density of buildings and the lack of green space, and they need green nature in the places where they perform their daily activities. However, the density of buildings in urban centers does not meet the need for green space (Osmanlıoğlu & Asilsoy, 2021). In line with these problems, vertical garden designs that soften the structural texture, can be used in areas with vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and support ecology and human psychology are created. Vertical garden designs, which are used both outdoors and indoors, provide ecological and aesthetic benefits as well as physical and mental health benefits to people. This study aims to present the adequacy of vertical gardens in Rize province, their positive and negative aspects, and their impact on the city.
