THE GARDEN CITY AND INVESTIGATION OF TODAY’S URBAN PROBLEMS

Özet

The concept of "garden", a word of Persian origin, which is of great importanceamong spatial concepts, means "bond". Herbaceous and woody ornamental plants, fruits,vegetables or medicinal aromatic plants are grown with visual characteristics such asflowers, leaves or fruits; In addition, it is also expressed as a physical environment wherelonging for nature is eliminated and people can get rid of the troubles of daily life andestablish a close relationship with natural beings. Large or small-scale, environmentally integrated, introverted courtyards or gardensare places that reflect the living conditions, economic and cultural characteristics of societiesin certain periods of history, and shaped according to the characteristics of the region inwhich they are located. According to this information; the concept of 'Garden City' cangenerally be defined as a phenomenon that combines the advantages of urban and rural areas. Building an isolated structure from these negative features of 'rural', which has limited sociallife, low wages or unemployment, no infrastructure services such as sewerage, and 'urban'cases that are disconnected from nature, have high rents and prices, have long working hoursand environmental pollution [3,4].The idea of 'garden city' has emerged. In this context; Sustainable and holistic cities areplanned to emerge with positive features such as nature's beauties, social opportunities, opengreen areas at accessible distances, infrastructure services, and wide investmentopportunities. In this study, the historical development of city planning has been examined. By comparingthis information with today's urban problems, the positive effects of urban open green spaceand landscape planning studies on human and environmental health are examined.
