In this study, bioactive food components and their role on human health are discussed. In addition, some foods that are definedas functional foods
due to their bioactive component content and their bioactivity on health are discussed. As a bioactive component; lignans, carotenoids,
organosulfur, glucosinolates, phenolic compounds, sterols, omega fatty acids, prebiotics and their bioactivities that contribute to health are
discussed. As functional food, pollen, fish, tea, some vegetables, fruits, spice products and their bioactivity are discussed. In this direction, some
important protective effects of bioactive components and functional foods rich in bioactive components are explained.
