The anticipated growth of the world's population demands innovative solutions to increase vegetable production and overall agricultural productivity while ensuring sustainability. Nanotechnology (NT) has emerged as a transformative approach in vegetable production, enhancing crop yields, pest resistance, efficient nutrient delivery, and resilience against abiotic stressors, with several studies reporting measurable improvements in yield performance and nutrient use efficiency following nanoparticle applications. This review highlights the potential of nanoparticles (NPs) to transform traditional agricultural practices and provides a comprehensive analysis of NPs' applications, including nanoparticle-based fertilizers, nano-pesticides, abiotic stress mitigation, and post-harvest management strategies. Advancements in nanoparticle synthesis, especially green synthesis methods, encourage environmentally friendly agricultural practices that support sustainable development goals. Although NPs integration shows remarkable improvements, concerns about environmental sustainability, regulatory gaps, and potential toxicity to ecosystems and human health require further research. Standardized guidelines, strong risk assessment frameworks, and sustainable nanomaterial design will be critical for addressing these challenges and ensuring safe and effective implementation. This review emphasizes the potential of NPs to address global food security challenges, offering a pathway toward a sustainable vegetable production system, provided that future research and policy frameworks ensure safe and responsible implementation.
