Özet

Accurate determination of water surface profiles around bridge piers is crucial for hydraulic assessment and structural safety. In this study, HEC-RAS software was applied to simulate flow patterns and compute water surface profiles in the urban reach of the Sufi Chay River, Maragheh. Field data including river cross sections, flow discharge, and pier characteristics were collected for model calibration and validation. Bridge piers were modeled as hydraulic obstacles using the obstruction method to assess their effects on local flow, energy losses, and water depth changes. Upstream and downstream boundary conditions were carefully defined, and maximum discharges were tested in different scenarios. Results showed variations in flow depth, velocity distribution, and backwater effects near the structures. These findings provide insights for optimizing bridge design, supporting maintenance strategies, and improving flood risk management in urban waterways. In this study, all critical and problematic sections were identified, and various hydraulic methods were presented to improve and correct them.
