Developments in Electric Discharge Machining, CRC Press, ss.1-21, 2026
Green Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is a manufacturing method that aims to reduce environmental effects and increase energy efficiency of the traditional EDM process. EDM shapes the part using high-voltage electrical discharge during the metalworking manufacture. However, during this manufacturing process, large amounts of energy consumption and waste material may occur. Various methods are used to reduce such negative effects with Green EDM. These methods include environmentally friendly (eco-friendly) practices such as the use of recycled and renewable energy sources, reduction of water and oil consumption, and waste management. Recently, these approaches have been preferred by manufacturers and businesses to reduce environmental effects and increase sustainability in the industry. In this chapter, general information about the Green EDM method is given, and the importance of its use in industry is mentioned. Then, information is given about the types of sustainable materials used in EDM methods, the efficiency of EDM, and its working principles. Finally, studies in the literature on parts manufactured using EDM methods are explained comparatively.
