Biography
I was born in 1969 in the Pazar district of Rize. I graduated from the Department of Biology at Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ) in 1992. Between 1992 and 2001, I completed my master’s and doctoral studies in Medical Microbiology at the KTÜ Institute of Health Sciences. From 1994 to 2001, I served as a research assistant in the fields of microbiology and clinical microbiology at the KTÜ Faculty of Medicine. After working as an assistant professor from 2002 to 2009, I was promoted to associate professor in the field of Medical Microbiology in 2009. Since 2014, I have continued my academic career as a professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University. My research focuses on the molecular epidemiology of antibiotic resistance and virulence genes in enteric bacteria, as well as the molecular epidemiology of pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria harboring conjugative resistance plasmids containing beta-lactamase genes and integron gene cassettes in clinically and environmentally derived bacteria. Recently, I have been focusing on isolating phages from wastewater for potential use in phage therapy, stockpiling phage cocktails for this purpose, and testing their potential therapeutic effects in Galleria mellonella animal infection models. I have a great interest in rock climbing and running. I am married and have two daughters.
