Prof. EROL YILMAZ

Erol Yilmaz is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering Division, at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University (RTEU), Türkiye. He received his B.Sc. in Mining Engineering from Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa (2000), M.Sc. in Mining Engineering from Karadeniz Technical University (2003), and Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT), Canada (2010), where he also conducted postdoctoral research.

Prof. Yilmaz has extensive academic and industrial experience in mining, geotechnical engineering, and environmental sciences, including engineering and managerial positions at First Quantum Minerals’ Cayeli Copper Mine (Türkiye). His research focuses on cemented paste backfill, mine tailings management and valorization, sustainable and low-carbon binders, waste-based construction materials, and geotechnical characterization of mine wastes.

He has authored and co-authored more than 170 scientific publications, received over 8,500 citations, and has a Web of Science h-index of 60. He has contributed to numerous national and international research projects and has extensive experience in multidisciplinary, industry-oriented research.

At RTEU, he has served in various academic and administrative roles. Internationally, he contributes as an editor, editorial board member, reviewer, thesis examiner, scientific committee member, consultant, and invited/keynote speaker for journals, funding agencies, and research projects.

Prof. Yilmaz has been recognized among the World’s Top 2% Scientists, achieving this distinction for consecutive years. His multidisciplinary expertise bridges mining engineering, geo-technical engineering, environmental sciences, and sustainable materials, with a strong emphasis on translating scientific research into practical solutions for safer, greener, and more sustainable mining.
